Definiens launches eCognition™ Community

Website Provides Collaborative Space for Earth Sciences Professionals

Definiens, the number one Enterprise Image Intelligence® company, has established an online community for Earth Sciences professionals. The eCognition Community is part of the company’s new geospatial website, http://earth.definiens.com, and provides an integrated environment for collaboration and knowledge transfer, along with social networking facilities.

Registration to the eCognition Community website is open to all geospatial professionals and academics. The website enables its members to collaborate and share knowledge in blogs, discussion boards, ruleware exchange, video and audio file sharing facilities, a knowledge wiki, and private conversation space. Additionally, a desktop application is freely available for download, allowing users to participate in the community and search for relevant content from the website while simultaneously working in Definiens Developer.

Definiens provides a suite of comprehensive software products for geospatial analysis, remote sensing, infrastructure planning, earth observation and natural resource management tasks to customers worldwide. The eCognition Community website allows users to share experiential information and collaborate on ruleware development for Definiens software. Dedicated space will be built for beta-testing of new software products, as well as for Definiens’ Academic Centers of Excellence and other affiliated groups.

Community members are able to post blogs and develop discussion boards about industry trends, with capabilities for the syndication of content from external websites. Definiens product managers and consultants will provide active blogging on different topics and provide technical assistance on Definiens products via the discussion boards.

“Definiens software has long been recognized as the industry standard. With the launch of the eCognition Community, we aim to set a new standard for online collaboration across the global Earth Sciences community,” said Ralph D. Humberg, Vice President, Earth Sciences at Definiens. “We are committed to providing resources to existing and potential customers. Our experiences with the eCognition Community will also help us to further improve our products as we plan to incorporate functionality for online participation into future software solutions.”

specifically designed for our geo-spatial analysis customers and community

In the last issue of Definiens Insight, the article “Realization of Your (Shared) Ideas”, noted that “one of the great challenges (and opportunities) facing Definiens is the facilitation of collaboration within our user community.” We are now only a few short weeks from providing a response to this challenge with the launch of a new website exclusively for Definiens’ geo-spatial analysis customers and community.
Highlighting the new website will be the introduction of an extensive knowledge-share environment: the eCognition Community. The community will provide free access to collaboration tools such as an eCognition wiki, user blogs and discussions, video, image and file sharing, and a new eCognition ruleware exchange.
A desktop applet will also be available so that community resources can be rapidly searched and accessed directly from a user’s desktop. Community subgroups will focus on special collaboration areas, such as Academic Centers of Excellence, beta software testing, or specific application types.
In time, the eCognition Community will not only change the way we communicate, document, collaborate, and share, but also how we use Definiens software. Community members will benefit from unprecidented levels of access to the latest information updates, product insights, and knowledge from the global network of Definiens software users.
