Planetek Hellas proudly announces its award of two significant contracts from the European Space Agency (ESA), worth a total of €11.5 million. These contracts are aimed at the development and delivery of a comprehensive Governmental Hub for the Greek Earth Observation (EO) Satellite Constellation.
This milestone initiative is part of the Axis III of the National Greek Space Satellite Project, funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, Greece 2.0 (https://greece20.gov.gr/). The project marks a critical step forward in Greece’s commitment to advancing space technology and enhancing national Earth Observation capabilities.
Under the first contract, valued at €10 million, Planetek Hellas will deliver an Integrated End-to-End Governmental Hub that will process and disseminate data generated by Greece’s future EO satellites. This hub will act as the core platform for data collection, ensuring seamless distribution to various governmental entities. Additionally, it will integrate five distinct service subsystems — Agriculture, Forest, Water, Safety & Security, and Land — assigned by ESA to different Prime contractors, each tailored to transform raw satellite data into actionable insights for specific governmental needs across multiple sectors.
The second contract, valued at €1.5 million, sees Planetek Hellas leading the Safety & Security service subsystem, one of the five core areas. This subsystem will focus on providing critical data analysis and insights to support national security and enhance emergency response capabilities.
Key Collaborations
Planetek Hellas will collaborate with several prestigious Greek organizations to bring the Governmental Hub to life. Notable subcontractors include Space Hellas SA, Neuropublic SA, and Knowledge SA, while other entities will serve as external suppliers. For the Safety & Security subsystem, Planetek Hellas will join forces with key national institutions, including the National Intelligence Agency (ΕΥΠ), the Center for Security Studies (KEMEA), the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), and the National Observatory of Athens (NOA).
This partnership between Planetek Hellas, ESA, and the Greek government represents a major leap forward in Earth Observation technology, positioning Greece as a leader in the application of satellite EO data for governmental purposes. The Governmental Hub is a transformative initiative of the Hellenic Ministry of Digital Governance expected to drive innovation, enhance national security, and support civil protection efforts, while also contributing to the sustainable management of Greece’s natural resources, including agriculture and forestry.
The official signing ceremony of these contracts between Planetek Hellas and ESA will be held in Athens on November 14, 2024, in the presence of representatives from the Hellenic Ministry of Digital Governance.
