The last few weeks have seen an accumulation of natural disasters. In particular the tropical storms KATRINA, RITA, WILMA and the like have left tremendous amounts of death and destruction on the American continent. But this is only the most visible consequences of a general trend. Humankind has now to face the fact that Global Change is not a remote scientific concept. It is here all around us from tropical storms to desertification, from receding glaciers to sea level change, from atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration increase to global temperature changes and with a variety of other observations. Critical Software: Supporting forest fire prevention

The operational result is a daily production of a fire-risk map at
national scale with 232 meters spatial resolution, using LANDSAT
imagery for land cover cartography, ETM produced in a NASA Shuttle
mission, weather forecast based on MSG, and daily MODIS imagery for

METOP Ground Stations for CLS, France

Kongsberg Spacetec is awarded a contract with CLS, Collecte
Localisation Satellite, France for delivery of three multimission
ground stations capable of receiving and processing data from the NOAA
and METOP satellites.

Preparation of the Land Parcel Identification System for Bulgaria and SAFIR related Projects

The Ministry of Agriculture of Bulgaria with the support of MARS-PAC of
the Institute for Protection and Security of Citizen at the Join
Research Center started two pilot projects for the preparation of the
methodology for the creation of the Land Parcel Identification System
(LPIS). Both projects are implemented by the Remote Sensing Application
Center (ReSAC).

RSI has announced the newest release of ENVI software that brings a new

Spot Image to distribute KOMPSAT-2 data

The Korean Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) has made Spot Image
exclusive distributor of data from the KOMPSAT-2 Earth observation
